As a virtual assistant, I can tell you that Pinterest has not only been a big part of my success, but is a consistently in-demand service with my clients. This is why I am SO excited to share this interview with Gina Horkey and Kristin Larsen about their course Become a Pinterest VA Today!
Hey Kristin & Gina! Can you give us a little background on your businesses and what helped set you on this path?
Gina: I started my online biz as a freelance writing in May, 2014 and added VA services to the mix a few months later. Kristin cold pitched me in late 2015 to expand my Pinterest presence and we started working together in January, 2016.
Kristin: I started my blog in January 2015, primarily writing about how to earn extra income side hustling. In the spring of 2015, I wrote a case study on how Pinterest was really driving traffic back to my site. Little did I know, that blog post changed my life! Shortly after hitting publish, fellow bloggers started reaching out to me about hiring me for Pinterest services. In less than a year of launching my blog, I was able to quit my day job and focus on offering Pinterest management services to bloggers and businesses.
How did you decide on your niche? Do you have any special certifications or training in this area?
Gina: I repurposed skills that I already had – my VA niche is email management and as someone that was used to managing my former boss’ email and getting to inbox zero myself on the regular, it was a no-brainer!
Kristin: My journey into Pinterest management started because I was getting crazy growth through my own blog! Fortunately, I was able to take my experience and knowledge and use it to help grow my client’s Pinterest accounts!
How has offering Pinterest services changed your life? What has it meant for your business?
Kristin: When I started out as a Pinterest VA, there really wasn’t anyone else in my niche offering these services. Bloggers and businesses were really excited that I niched down and only focused on Pinterest services compared to general social media management. I felt very fortunate to have so many opportunities to work with clients and run a successful business.
Today, I get really excited when a potential client reaches out and I can refer them to our alumni students from Become a Pinterest VA TODAY!
Gina: Kristin taking over my Pinterest account was HUGE. She can produce specific stats, but we saw a HUGE increase in traffic from Pinterest since she took over a year and a half ago. My favorite is when someone reaches out to me after purchasing a course or just saying hi and telling me that they found my site on Pinterest!
Are Pinterest services good for all levels of virtual assistants, or should newbies wait?
Gina: I think newbie virtual assistants can offer Pinterest Management – the big thing is knowing the platform inside and out. And the best way to learn it is to practice on yourself (or someone else you know that has a website/blog).
Is there one tip or piece of advice on offering Pinterest services that you could share with us today?
Gina: You HAVE to be willing to put yourself out there consistently. Clients won’t magically find you, you need to find them. And again, practicing on your own Pinterest presence (or someone you know) is the easiest way to get it down and prove that you’ve been able to get results!
Kristin: Make a list of your dream clients you would like to work with! Even if you are nervous, pitch to them anyways. One of my favorite examples is when I pitched a big time blogger! She didn’t need my services, but ended up referring several clients to me. I was so grateful for that, and it just goes to show that you never know what can happen!
